Although most Japanese know of Tanabata as a July holiday, in some places on Kamigoto we celebrate Tanabata on August 7th rather than July 7th. (depends on which--Western or Eastern--calendar you're using) Yuki's hometown, Aosa, is one of those places celebrating in August.

Early on August 5th Yuki left the house to cut a bamboo branch for us. He was gone for hours, and when he came back he had a HUGE branch that was taller than the house.

Although this is mainly a children's holiday, and there are no children in their household anymore, Yuki likes to celebrate with fervor! This might be the equivalent of an American guy who wants the biggest Christmas tree for his children/household. Kinda sweet...

That night we all put up our wishes and hung them on the bamboo. The next day Yuki and I stood the bamboo up in front of our house, and I took pictures. (In the top picture you can see the top of the bamboo over the roof of the house.)
