My mom and I are having a competition.

We are racing to 100 miles. We want to see who can walk/jog/run 100 miles first.

I'm going to win.

Since yesterday was New Year's Eve I told the kids they could make muffins ...but they had to use my recipe. The next question was inevitably: Are they bran muffins!?!?

"Yes, they have bran in them, but they are not bran muffins. It's less than half a cup!"

"Oh noooo!! Not braaaan muffins!!"
"What's the point?!? That's not a treat!"
"Our mom makes those! They're all ...brown and stuff!!!"

My muffin recipe (which I just found on the back of a 7-grain cereal package) is actually really good. It has apples, honey and brown sugar, oatmeal and yes, ...a little bit of bran.

At the grocery store I decided to let the kids get a container of frosting to put on the muffins. There's no point in making muffins if they're not going to eat them!

I had no idea a little pink frosting and sprinkles would make these muffins the hottest thing in the kitchen! Despite monitoring the amount of frosting that went on the tops of each one, the kids couldn't get enough!

They even said they weren't so bad without frosting. They couldn't even taste the bran!

As if they know what bran tastes like.
